Either optical or coaxial digital cable between the amp and DVD. I would connect the DVD player directly to the TV with a scart cable (RGB) and not use the video switching in the amp.
But if you have alot of sources or several displays you might want to use the video switching in the amp.
Does it have DVD-audio ar SACD?
If it does you need to connect the 6ch out on DVD to the 6ch in on the amp.

i dont think it is SACD but im not sure about the DVD-Audio, it does have the 6CH out on the DVD though. im havig trouble getting the SVIDEO and/or COAX to work though (i put a thread in the cables forum)

Looks like it doesn't have SACD or DVD-Audio, specs here (http://www.movie-mania.dk/Hardware/Yamaha/DVDS795.htm)
In the audio setup you have to choose digital output and you have to select digital inn on the amp.
