As the title suggests has any one tried to repair one of these as i suspect the laser has given up
Messege keeps coming up that the disc is dirty or damaged but this is not the case, have even got a cleaning disc, but no joy.Has anyone got one open to even clean the laser manually?
Cant see any visible fixings!
Thx v much.

I tried cleaning the lens on mine but it still didn't solve the "dirty or damaged disc" error message, so ended up buying a new drive off eeeebay. Got hold of a samsung drive for about £40. If you prefer as a cheaper option you could just buy a new lens for about £15 and replace it yourself.
Hope this helps ;)~;-)~

There's a games place in Stoke called 'Whitedog' or something.
They do Xbox repairs, and will give a free quote, if you post them it:

If it helps.

The Samsung drives tend to be very good, but aren't fitted in every Xbox. Most of the original Xboxs have Thomson drives, which are absolutely dire! Later models I believe also contained Thomson drives, but better ones.
I'd recommend a Samsung one.
