Hi folks,

I am about to move into my first house (a 1950's Semi-Detached place), and am bit worried I wont get to listen at reasonably high volumes, without annoying the neighbours :?~:-?~:???:

I generally like to listen to music and watch movies 'fairly' loud, and am wondering what sort of levels I can go to without being too loud next door. I don't tend to have my sub too loud, just loud enough to blend in with my floorstanders, although in certain action scenes the bass is still very strong.

Obviously I wont be able to have it shaking the walls, but I would like to listen fairly loud.

Are there any recommendations you can think of to reduce the noise travelling through? Would it help if I put the floorstanders and sub on concrete slabs (or any other material? Ideally I would like to soundproof the full room, but I have absolutely no idea of how to do this, and what it would cost etc.

The worst thing is the two front rooms of the semi are on the inside :?~:-?~:???:

ANy recommendations really appreciated!

bit too late for that - i've been in since last Friday!

No complaints as yet, but then again I havent had it very loud. Besides, the neighbours have made their fair share of racket - having friends round and creating general noise. I suppose its good in a way, thats something to mention if they ever do complain :D~:-D~

in that case my experiance is not to play to loud after 9 at night and ask them to tell you if you are making to much noise

You could also use your Amps Dynamic Range Control (aka Midnight Mode). Means you can have the overall volume higher to hear dialogue yet not blast your neighbours to bits when there's an explosion etc.

I live in a flat, but only neighbour really directly connected to my living room is below. I have solid floors, watch movies at -10 and music at up to -15, up to 11pm weekdays and maybe midnight weekends. Never a complaint.

When was the last time you saw your neighbour? IS there a big pile of newspapers by their door? Have they been collecting their post? Is there a real nasty smell coming from the flat?
