What with the release of the brillant xbox 360 in the next 8 weeks time. Are you still buying games for your current console be it ps2, game cube or xbox. I have stopped buying totally as I know in 8 weeks time I wont be considering playing current xbox games but will be investing in the newer 360 titles. images/smiley_icons/bye1.gif

Still buying, but tbh I don't think there's any games I want between now and December. Which is weird because this is usually the time when most good games are released :?~:-?~:???:

I'm going to have a big clearout soon anyway to start my Xbox360 fund. My DS has been sold already and I'm going to clear out about half of my games collection :( I've decided to keep my Xbox though because I'm sure some games won't be playable on the 360. It's only being done for the most popular games so that means there's no chance of it supporting games like Panzer Dragoon, Outrun 2, Otogi etc :(

I've also cleared a shelf in preparation for my 360  Word of warning for everyone buying a 360...find a large area for the PSU to hide. Like the GC, it's got an external PSU. It's HUGE!! Think of it as the GC PSU...but about five times bigger :o~:-o~

I voted that I'll be sticking with the current generation for a while yet. I was planning on buying a 360 at launch but see no point in doing so until I can enjoy the games in 720p which means getting a new display first, a purchase that I have put off into 2006. I'll be waiting for the 360s first price drop as if I am brutally honest, whilst it has launch titles I want; none of them are offering me anything I've not really seen before.

An unfortunate problem with the current generation of titles right now is with the Xbox all focus has moved to its successor. Nintendo having delayed Twilight Princess into 2006 have nothing to offer for the Gamecube, and Sony - so over preoccupied with the PSP in Europe - are holding back on any of the decent PS2 titles, like Wanda and the Colossus, until 2006. There's also no sign of Dragon Quest 8 or Kingdom Hearts 2 hitting these shores this side of Christmas leaving gamers with no choice but to import them (providing one has the means to play imports of course).

The DS has been my console of choice for a while now. I can hardly put the thing down. There are a good few titles coming for it this winter both overseas and in Europe, and of course the beauty is since it's not region locked you can get whatever you want (I can't conceive that the likes of the sublime Osu! Tatakae! Oendan! will ever be released outside of Japan).

It's a fear that makes me laugh and cry at the same time. In a sense it will play the Xbox's most popular games but very few of its best ones (the three you mention, plus I'd add Strangers Wrath and others to the list I'm concerned wont play).

There's never been a better time to buy up catalogue titles on the current generation though. There are so many bargains right now, plus even more surely to be had in the run up to Christmas what with stores so desperate to get consumers buying this winter. I just can't think of a genuinely good reason to want the 360 this year save for the short lived happiness one has in owning the latest toy.

Good time to be a gamer whatever you decide.

I am still buying but much less often than i used to. But that has nothing to do with the new Xbox

Daniel, I'm sure you've already played it but, if not, then I suggest picking up Meteos  I've had the Japanese version since May (since I didn't think it would get a domestic release) and it's the best DS game I've ever played. Actually it's the only one that hasn't disappointed me. Unfortunately after 30+ hours of playing it, I've reached the point where I've unlocked everything and I can't improve on my best scores :(

Popular doesn't always equal good  GTA is popular but I certainly wouldn't call it a good game. Unfortunately it's games like GTA and Halo 2 that will be converted first, and then they'll work on other games from there. By the time they get to games like Outrun 2, the next Xbox will be ready for release

Launch day. Project Gotham Racing 3. Xbox Live.

That's enough of a reason for me

Yes PGR3 would be one I'd get if I got one at launch, even though it's essentially little more than a better looking and slightly tweaked version of what we've played through before in MSR and PGR in the past... the gameplay is just too good and the latest videos are truly stunning. Elder Scrolls Oblivion is the other attractive launch that I'd get if I were to buy the console in December. Again, it's nothing really new, but like PGR3 I find it to be an already proven title for superb gameplay, and again it looks stunning.

But…

I'm not getting one at launch…

I'm not getting one at launch…

I'm not getting one at launch…

I'm not getting one at launch…

I'm not getting one at launch…

I have to shut my eyes and keep saying that back to myself. :)~:-)~

PS: Meteos is indeed great! I'm bias toward most things from Tetsuya Mizuguchi mind you… If Ninety-Nine Nights were a 360 launch title in the west this winter I probably wouldn't think twice about getting the console upon its release.

Have you seen the latest in-game PGR3 videos? There's one showing a flyover and demo. of the city and a Ferrari, one showing a race (!) and another showing a time trial video. It looks absolutely fantastic  I'm very biased towards the series...I've put in about 200 hours on PGR2, and at least 150 of that is online. It's just the perfect online game.

What about Ridge Racer? Ridge Racer 6 is looking amazing. That's the game that made me pre-order a 360 at launch :D~:-D~

I'm a big fan of Mizuguchi's games myself  Rez is just a benchmark in game design

It's all those the in-car view videos from PGR3 that leave me so utterly lost for words. It all backs up the reason I don't want the console before owning a hi-def capable set because I just don't want to experience these games for the first time in anything but their high resolutions. That's more of a factor in deciding against a lunch purchase than the price or lack of genuinely unique titles.

I lost love for Ridge Racer a number of years ago. Ridge Racer 6 looks ok, but I'm never one for buying two games of a similar genre within a short period of time so if faced with a choice of Ridge Racer 6 or PGR3, it would be Gotham without question.

I was going to buy a HD LCD for November but I'm not going to now. I was then going to just buy a nice new 32" widescreen CRT to keep me going until I finally buy a HD screen...now I don't know :?~:-?~:???: Apparently Samsung are bringing a proper 720p CRT over here instead of one that just upconverts to 1080i, so I want to wait for that

You don't like Ridge Racer? :o~:-o~ There's quite a big difference in styles between Ridge and PGR, so I want both. Plus I've got an unhealthy obsession with arcade racers, so Ridge Racer is a necessary purchase for me tbh I want Ridge Racer more than I want PGR3

DanielBrecher

Don't get me wrong, I love a good arcade racer, but Namco failed to really capture my attention with the series after Ridge Racer Type 4 which I enjoyed a great deal. RR6 is looking lovely visually, but I'd like to see how big the game is really.

Yes still buying games, just got the new Conflict game on the XBOX. It's a great game for playing co-operatively with your mates.

Plugged my Dreamcast in to my DLP for the first time the other day, didn't look too bad. Had the urge to play some Sega Rally 2, Silent scope and Ikaragua, bloody hard game though.

I sold my xbox about 6 weeks ago, with all my games as I figured I wouldn't be able to get tuppence for it in a few weeks time. I still buy games for my DS, PSP, and NGC though!

I am forking out nearly £500 for the x360 on launch though. Including 6 games! :o~:-o~ :o~:-o~ :o~:-o~

As a trainee teacher I'm not going to get any time playing it either, but compulsion won over in the end! w)

Mind you, Kameo cost me £29.99 from amazon, PDZ was £32.99 from amazon, GR3 £33.99, DOA4 £33.99, PGR3 £33.99, COD2 £33.99 all from asda! No bad really! :D~:-D~

I might see if I can get 10% off the x360 on launch by using my NUS card. Don't know if that would work though? Would save myself £28 on the console itself then as well!

If it all works out then i'd have saved myself £69 on all that kit!

But still spent £470 :o~:-o~

Bloody hell! That's a lot to buy one day one :o~:-o~ I've limited myself to the proper XBox360 (ie not the stupid budget version), a wireless charge+play adaptor, PGR3, Kameo and probably the RGB lead if I haven't got a new TV by December

Good prices, though bear in mind Ubisoft announced last week that Ghost Recon 3 has been delayed until February of 2006.

I dont believe it, the 2 game I wanted for the 360 are being released late. Ghost Recon and Gears of War. :(

DanielBrecher

Well in fairness to Gears of War I believe it was always set for a release in the spring of 2006 at the earliest. I'd never heard of it being potentially coming any sooner. The GR3 delay is needed for what Ubisoft have called "additional time to perfect" the game, which is fair enough.

I bought the xbox a year ago and now have a total of five games I have bought in addition to Halo (well, six, the GTA is a double pack). I'm probably still going to buy Jade Empire and maybe Halo 2,Far Cry Instincts and some DOA game before I shift up to 360. I haven't seen anything announced for 360 that would really impress me so far (like Knights of the Old Republic and Deus Ex 2 were the reason for me to buy an xbox instead of an expensive pc upgrade).

I'm probably microsoft's nightmare customer, I really have the patience to wait for the prices to go down before I buy, mostly because I started the console stuff so late I'm just catching up on the releases slowly...

Just to prove myself wrong on the latter count, I went and bought Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.

I admit: All I need is a mention of "Deus Ex" in a review and I'm halfway out the door.
