View Full Version : Door Soundproofing...

I want to keep the style of my current interior doors on my HC room, but I really don't think it will have any soundproof qualities. So if I am to compromise (and not install a heavy fire door), what options would I have in soundproofing my existing door?

If it is a modern egg box type you could strip the panels off and either remake the door building up the thickness with ply sheeting or just pack the existing door with ply, beefing up the hinge side so handle the extra weight.

You will also need to ensure that it seals around all the edges and lock holes so that air/sound cannot escape through that way. You can either make a threshhold or get some specifically designed sealing mechanisms.

Would it not be best just to pull a full length curtain across it. A couple of the houses I looked at had too many doors in to the living room. I was thinking of putting a curtain across one wall to hide the door and help soften the room.

Buy a cheap “Firedoor” not only will it keep the sound in, but make sure you can't see any light pepping though the gaps, this is where it will fail. :)~:-)~
