Sorry about two questions in a row - what's the cheapest Pro Logic II option? I mean the very cheapest, as long as I get PLII sound I'm happy  Thanks again!

Probably one of the Pioneer slim-line receivers from RS?

Would you also buy the cheapest possible CD player or amplifier, on the grounds that, so long as it does stereo, you're happy?

What do you mean by that? I am on a very strict budget, and the Nintendo GameCube, although works quite well with Pro Logic, is meant to be used with Pro Logic II, so I am after the cheapest possible way of obtaining Pro Logic II.

By an XBOX then you get DD 5.1 w) ...

On a serious note.... how about the Yamaha RXV430RDS seen those for about 180, is that within your budget?

Hmm, I've seen cheaper than that. By the way, no way would I give up my GameCube for an Xbox!

Why not? Don't you like good games with superior graphics and sound? Don't fancy XBox Live? Halo 2?

:?~:-?~:???: An AV forum isn't the place to argue about games consoles, but I do have to say that Halo is just about the only good thing Xbox has to offer. Would you trust Bill Gates in making your games, or Nintendo, who has been in the business 20 years now, and who still make superb epic games like the Legend Of Zelda series? Most games on Xbox are graphically flashy, but nothing more. But then again, everyone has their own tastes! I think I'll stick with Nintendo, you stick with Microsoft then.

You're right, this isn't the place to get into a big console debate, but I feel I do have to respond to a couple of points you make.
Firstly, no I wouldn't trust Bill Gates to make my games. But I do trust him to buy companies like Bungie who WILL make the kind of games I'll want to play  And as for Zelda...I've never played it but, going by popular opinion, am quite happy to accept every game in the series is excellent. However, I haven't heard of one other 'must buy' title for the GameCube.
Like you say, it's all down to personal preference and if I'm completely honest I'd own all three major consoles if I could afford to.
Back on subject. Seeing as you obviously don't mind having older gear Richer Sounds has got to be a good place to start. They do the Yamaha mentioned earlier (£180) and the Marantz 4200 for £130. I don't know what either is like but have owned a Yamaha amp in the past which I recently replaced with a Marantz 5300. I was/am very happy with the performance of both and do not doubt that either of the older, lower end models mentioned would meet your expectations.
Also, have you had a look through the classifieds? Might pick up a bargain thanks to someone else upgrading

I greatly appreciate your comments mate! Thanks for the advice on the amps, and especially for the very mature, understanding argument you put across on Xbox, normally people lose their heads when it comes to 'console wars', etc.
A brief note, have you ever heard of Metroid Prime, Resident Evil, Super Smash Bros Melee and Eternal Darkness? These games, along with The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker especially, are worth having a GameCube for, most other titles are available on all three consoles but Nintendo have a huge arrange of exlusive titles.
