Hi,

out of the following what would you recommend to replace my ageing yammy dsp-a5 amp?

Pioneer vxs-d2011 £699

Denon 3803 £699

Onkyo tx-sr701 £630

What do you reckon? w)

Depending on what you need/want from the amp, it's definitely out of the first two you list. From an all out sound quality point of view, I would probably go for the 2011. It's MCACC auto set up feature means you always get the best from the amp, it's THX Select certified and has an excellent learning remote control. If you're looking to route component signals through the amp or use a plasma and have lip synch problems, then the 3803 might well be better suited.

I've got the 2011 and Bonesy from these forums has the 3083 which I've heard quite a lot of. The Pioneer, I think, handles steering better and is more analytical whereas the Denon is more 'lush' sounding and warmer - which probably means it's better suited to CD replay if you need that facility.

I would agree with JB.

Particularly if you have or plan on getting a Plasma at a later date. The 3803's video conversion means you can just run a single set of component cables from the Denon to the Plasma and at the same time use the machines delay facility to deal with the lip synch problems that will most likely rear it's head especially from Sky sources.

The Pioneer has other strong points as mentioned.

if you are upgrading to one of the above receivers you owe it to yourself to upgrade from Bose-this will let your chosen teceiver perform better and give you much more listening pleasure. if cash is tight then Richer sounds do some decent cut price deals on Kef and Mission.

That's a question only you and your bank balance can answer, but it does somewhat quantify the previous advice:

If you're planning on keeping the Bose speakers for a while, I doubt you'll notice any difference between any of the three amps you mention. You'll also be accessing about 10% of your new amp's potential :(
