I've had a Densen DeMagic demagnetising CD for several years now and use it on my system maybe once a month.

I think it improves the sound of my setup but as with all these 'tweaks' there's no way of doing an A-B comparison and I could be convincing myself!

Anyone else out there use one regularly or are there any bright sparks who could explain the scientific rationale behind their use - personally I can't understand how continuously variable signals could set up standing magnetism in AV gear.

Cheers

I´ve got one as well and it does appear to work. Mind you as someone once said, anything will sound better after listening to the racket the disc makes!

Just to make sure, I went out of the room and came back when it was finished and the sound did seem clearer. :)~:-)~

Yeah, it certainly makes one unholy din! My wife wondered what the hell was going on the first time I used it. :D~:-D~

What's it supposed to do? :)~:-)~

It´s supposed to get rid of any magnetic fields that have built up in your system, allegedly these magnetic fields impair performance. Seems to work and only costs 10 quid.

Sounds reasonable Jase :)~:-)~

I take it it's quite a different type of CD then? Different material composition?

BTW, that ´ instead of an apostrophe each time in your posts is driving me nuts now :x~:-x~

It's an ordinary CD SG but the signal is very odd - a bit like warble sweeps for testing bass but across the full frequency spectrum and it goes on for about three minutes.

I believe the idea is that the signal works some magic or other throughout your system from source to speaker. There's no special magnetic quality about the disc itself.

Oh please don't mention 'magic', you'll put me off

I guess a full frequency sweep does wonders in itself. Can't see the link with demagnetisation though (not skeptical, just don't understand enough about these things).

Guys, I guess this CD is as useful when played through a DVD player as a CD player?

If so, I think I'll give it a try. Is this the best/cheapest you lot have seen?
