View Full Version : DS Lite - the REAL Nintendo DS finally arrives

My new toy arrived this morning :D~:-D~ It's a re-vamped Nintendo DS, with vastly improved screens (seriously...they're the best LCDs I've ever seen :o~:-o~ ) and a much sleeker, comfier, and more stylish design. This is the DS that should have been launched last year instead of the DS that we actually got. I like it but the console is far too awkward to hold, and those screens are crap. Here's a comparison video to show how it looks compared to the old machine:

Here's how it looks compared to the regular DS:

Also available in dark blue:
And light blue:
I went for the Crystal white one because I thought it would hide fingerprints more easily...and I was right :D~:-D~ For the difference in looks and - especially - the image quality due to the better screens, it is easily a worthwhile upgrade over the DS. All those great games are actually playable now :P~:-P~ I have never seen such a bright and colourful screen.
It's only available in Japan atm. I bought it from a UK retailer - www.jpngames.co.uk. Even though it was more expensive than buying it directly from Japan, I saved money because customs and duty had already been paid. I know someone who paid less than I did, but then got stung by customs and ended up paying about £25 more
Nice, it looks much better than the original. The original always felt and looked a little fisher price to me. Ill have to check em out when the finaly arrive over here.

I just edited my first post. Have a look at those videos to see how big the difference actually is :o~:-o~ And that's from a fairly poor video...in real life, the difference is even bigger
Nintendo have done it the right way this time. Instead of going for poor screens and the worst design they could find, they've used some of the best portable LCD screens I've ever seen (this thing easily beats my PSP, PDAs, Pocket PCs etc for screen brightness and colour vibrancy) and a great ergonomical design. It's comfy, sleek, and it looks fantastic.
Christ on a bike. That looks much better, the screen looks great in comparison to the old unit. Bet they wish they had never released the old clunky one!!

I wish they had as well...I had two of the old style consoles before I bought this one :banghead: (bought a launch machine...sold it. Then bought another one at Christmas...a couple of weeks before this was announced images/smiley_icons/censored.gif )
