View Full Version : AV Receiver Suggestions (around £1000)

I'm currently setting up another room with a Plasma in it (kids room so they stay out of my room :)~:-)~), and don't want to go too overboard - I've got a set of AG Micros and need some amplification. I'm considering something like a second hand Denon AV1SR, and also an Onkyo NR900 ('cause of its ethernet connection, and 2nd powered zone for the kitchen).
Anyone got any other suggestions for me to look at?
If you can pick up an A1SR for around a 1000 quid thats a bargain as they go for around 1600 2nd hand! There is an upgraded Denon A1SE being sold by member TK2001 for 1200 quid.
Other alternatives would be the Denon A11SR (2nd hand), Denon 3803, Pioneer AX5i.

Ok here's my actual dilemma: I have two rooms - 7.1 system in main room, and 5.1 system going into the second room. I currently have a Tag Mclaren 250x3R (3 channels), a Bryston 9BST (5 channels), and Bryston 4BST (2 channels). The main room has 7 x M&K S150 speakers which are currently being driven with the 250x3 and 9BST (with 1 channel spare - what am I supposed to do with that???). My plan was to sell the 4BST and get a AV Receiver in the second room to drive 5 AG Micros.
I'm already about £20k over my original budget (I hate this hobby :(), so don't really want to spend more than £2k more getting the second room up and running. I assumed I would take the easy option above (sell 4BST + AV receiver). I'm thinking I could move the 9BST into room 2 and buy a AV processor + 4 channel amp for room 1? Or just buy a processor and amp for room 2? Or stick with an AV receiver in room 2? My head is starting to hurt again....

Do you really need the tuner? If not then Juboy has a bargain going in the hardware section.

No don't need a tuner at all - I'm looking at Juboy's bargain. Will a Pioneer VSX-2011 drive the AG Micros comfortably - opinions anyone?

Uncle Eric used to say that his Denon 3802 did the biz with the Gallos, and I'm happy with the 2802, so I reckon the answer is yes.
