The other day we received are Jap import playstation 3 along with Ridge racer 7 and some other $hit game.
We have the console hooked up to Sharp's new 1080p set and i have to say, although im not a big gamer that the graphics dont seem to be as good as the 360. Or maybe its just the games????
I also put in SWAT(BLU-RAY VERSION) as the samsung blu-ray player is quite frankly crap and the ps3's player isnt far behind it.

Ridge Racer 7 is basically a port of a 14 month old Xbox360 game (which was never graphically cutting-edge anyway) so it isn't a good choice to show off the graphics of the PS3. Try something like Motorstorm or Formula One, or download a few demos (GT: HD, Genji etc) to see what the console can really do

Seems to be the initial response to most next gen console launches. Needs a few AAA titles to really show it's potential. I can't wait to get my PS3 next week :)~:-)~.

Give the PS3 another year. They MAY  have the kinks worked out. I returned mine months ago. I intend to get another at a later date when there's some decent software available for it.
Presently, the 360 owns the PS3. But, time will tell.

Got my PS3 finally, it's dog ugly in my opinion but apart from that I am very pleased with it. My main reason for getting it was for blu-ray playback and for that it does everything very well, for me the games are an added bonus.

Got one today. Been very impressed with it apart from a few difficulties setting up the wireless. Watched MI3 and was quite frankly blown away!!!

I am also getting into the F1 game, guess you have to really like F1 and racing games but if you do it's worth a go. Going through the whole GP weekend, perfecting setups through practice is very satisfying I find.

I've been using it since I picked mine up on Thursday night. I'm really, really, impressed with the machine so far  The games I've played have all been great fun (Motorstorm, Resistance, F1, and I've just picked up Ridge Racer). There's loads of downloadable demos and content. If you sign up for a Japanese account, make up some details, and you have access to the Japanese servers  - there's a few more demos on there, including the new Hot Shots Golf game
I bought it for Blu-ray just as much as I did for games, and so far I'm damn impressed with Blu-ray  I had assumed that MPEG2 films would look poor compared to HD-DVD, but that just isn't true at all. The films I've seen look fantastic and the ones with DTS Master Audio (and therefore a 1.5mbps DTS soundtrack for us normal users) sound stunning :o~:-o~
Has anyone taken it online yet? Add me to your "Friends List" - mrlench

I'll get mine online at the weekend, we should setup some F1 games :)~:-)~.
Which Blu-Ray films have you tried with DTS Master Audio, and what settings do you use to get 1.5mps DTS?

F1 is good online  I haven't sorted out a Bluetooth headset yet, but AFAIK any headset SHOULD work...in theory

With the French HD-DVD version out soon, I'm hoping that someone wants to offload their Blu-ray disc? :D~:-D~
I'll pay a good price for it (£12? £10?) or I might have something to trade if there's anything special that you want
So far I've tried X-Men 3 and Fantastic Four. I didn't need to change anything to get it working. When you set up your sound settings, you choose the format (HDMI, optical, SCART etc) and then choose which formats you can use. So I picked optical, and then Dolby Digital and DTS. Linear PCM is selected automatically. The films I've tried only have DTS MA (no regular DTS5.1, DD5.1 etc), so when I play them it selects it and plays it as the regular DTS soundtrack at 1.5mbps. So basically you set it up to play DTS beforehand, and then leave it to do everything else for you

Might be tempted to try X-Men 3 for the audio then. The Blu-Ray disks I have so far have only had DD5.1 or PCM. I understood hat the PCM sound tracks wouldn't work over optical.

PCM works over optical, but only in stereo (2.0) sound. You need HDMI for 5.1PCM. Quick comparison on the films I've tried: DD5.1 is 660kbps (sometimes 448kbps)...5.1PCM is about 6mbps :o~:-o~
X-Men is a very good disc, IMO. It's just a shame that Fox's discs so far are:
a, expensive
b, region-locked :x~:-x~

Motor Storm online is a good laugh. Also the time trials for Gran Turismo is a good challenge too. Shame we have to wait nearly a year to get that one! :(
