I have just bought a davs550 and have setup as follows:
Philips tv 6506 - 1 rgb scart & 1 svhs scart
davs550 - to tv svhs scart using adaptor and yellow lead supplied with system
skydigibox - to tv using rgb scart connection
davs550 - l/r audio in to digibox l/r audio out
Used ixos interconnects for the last one from my old hifi.
DVD picture is ok & system sounds good on DD & DP2
Is there a better way to connect
I have only connected to tv via the 2 scart sockets available
Would using svideo from davs550 to tv scart svhs be a better option
I would then need a svideo to scart cable - does this exist & will it work (excuse my ignorance but are svideo & svhs the same thing?)

Hi geezer,
davs550 is a surrond sound system without any scart output.
Outputs available are svideo, component & the current phono yellow lead, which I think is composite.

well you would be much better off with svideo than the lead you are uing at the moment, although you could buy and svideo to scart lead

ok why are you connecting the dvd to the sky box, i understand going from the sky box to the amp, or am i reading it wrong?
The sky is fine along as you are using a proper rgb scart.
as i said ditch the cable you are using for the dvd as this is the worst connection you can use.

Geezer,
The Davs550 is a dvd/decoder as part of an all in one home cinema.
I thought to get Dolby Prologic2 fom sky, the decoder needs to connect direct to sky box via audio phono leads.
It certainly works this way.
The tv to sky connection also works but does not give DP2.
I will look at svideo to scart.
The tv scart 2 is svhs/cbvs - is this compatible.

Yes i understand that it is an all in one DVD decoder, what i meant was do you have phono leads running from the dvd/decoder to sky? i understand why you would have them coming out of the sky to the dvd, but dont understand why they would be going the other way, as this wouldnt do anything.
Ok the way i have mine is
Sky connects to amp via phono's to get prologic 2
tv also connects to amp via phono's for prologic 2
Your second scart input is a normal scart input (not rgb) So yes you want to use sky in the the rgb socket and the dvd in the other.
you should beable to get prologic 2 working for terrestrial tv too if you connect it like i do

Sorry, I was confused with the connections
Yes I have sky box to decoder via phono (not the other way round)
I am beginning to understand now
Also as the second scart on tv is svhs (not rgb),I can connect dvd to tv using svideo to scart cable
And this will be better than current yellow connection.
Yes ?
Any advice on which make of cable

Checked out some cables at local shop
But now I find my tv second scart(svhs)will not accept svideo & has no other sockets available
They showed me this in the store
Their advice is to use a video to scart lead which did show a slight picture improvement
Apparently this is common with Philips (Pansaonic have svideo capability)
I do not wish to change the tv at this stage so I have any other options
