View Full Version : Bluray player upgrade?

I'm looking for a second bluray player, for a second room.
I have a sony s550 in my main room, and I dont really want to spend much on this second room, it will hardly get used..
Should I get the cheapest reasonable bluray player for the second room.. or is there any reason to get a better player than the s550 for my main room and demoting that to the second room?
What can newer players do that the s550 cant? anything?

You could look at the likes of a full media streamer with BD loader such as the Popcorn Hour C-200 (plus adding the BD) or the HDI Dune Prime 3.0 or go for a higher end BDP such as the new Arcam BDP-100 at around £1k w)

I cant be bothered with media streamers.. I have a tvix unit that i havent bothered to setup since moving house 1 year ago.. now i have Sky HD and can record shows i have enough to watch.
I'm sure they vary, but the tvix i had was meant to be the best at the time, but on some sources it was very unstable, i got bored of it really. I know people rate the popcorn hour, but i think it depends on lot on what files you are trying to play.
Not really looking for a 1k player, or even the Oppo units, which are 500+ i think. Just wondered if the latest 100-250 quid players offer any more than my Sony 550, or should i just get the cheapest player for my other room and stick with the 550.

What about one of these two?
Both are, as far as I'm aware, only at that price until midnight tonight.

I've got the 360 as a second player and I'm more than happy with it. Great picture and the 370 is meant to be a step up.
