I recieved my Pioneer 2011 about 5 months ago and I think that it is a great receiever and I reall enjoy it. Now Pioneer changed the model (so fast) to the AX-5 and I wonder if you can really feel big differences between them both in stereo as well as home cinema and DVD-AUDIO. Please let me know if you think the difference worth an upgrade.

I had the 2011 for six months and have now had the AX5i for about 2 months.
If you use the Pioneer 757Ai DVD player then there are definite and noticeably benefits to be gained from using the i-Link connection, which is by the far the main addition to the newer amp model.
The lip synch delay is also useful if you have problems with such things, usually if you're a plasma owner this can be an issue. I have only come across the problem on a couple of R3 DTS DVDs so it doesn't really bother me. Since getting Sky+, I don't seem to notice the problem with Sky either.
I'd look at it like this - if you paid around £700 for your 2001 and managed to c.£550 for it second hand (which seems to be around the current s/h price) then you'll have lost £150 there and still need to find around £400 to pick up an AX5i. So, the upgrade will cost you at least £500 in real terms.
If you don't have the 757Ai then I just don't see (or hear) how it's worth the upgrade... although even I admit that it's tempting because the 2011 is so damn good you wonder how they could have made it better :D~:-D~

Couldnt agree more juboy, I think I'd really struggle to use an AX10 to its full potential. The 5 is more than enough! General concensous seems to be its the best receiver this side of £2000 when used with an i-link player

 I thought exactly the same as you Scott - how in the hell would I really gain any benefit from the AX10i? I guess if you have a really large room it might be worth it but I've never yet watched a DVD at more than -05 on the AX5i's volume and even that was verging on painfully loud in my room.

Yeah, most of my DVD listening seems to be at around -15 on the Pioneer Vol, with biggish floorstanders its more than 'ample' like hitting a drawing pin in with a sledgehammer is 'ample' !
