Hi, this question spans a few topics but this seemed the best one.
I'm thinking of upgrading my current system with the aim of improving stereo music sound quality whilst getting decent AV performance out the same kit. I don't have space for two separate systems.
Current equipment
Primare V25 DVD player (used as CD source)
Rotel RSX-1055 AV receiver
Dynaudio Contour 1.1 speakers
Old Mourdant-Short Centre
Mission 760iSE rear speakers
I'm definitely changing the centre to the Dynaudio 122C.
What I was thinking of doing was getting a very good pre/pro like a s/h Meridian 568 or 568.2 and something like a Rotel RB-1080 power amp. I'd then use the 1055 amps for centre and rears until I could find a s/h 3 channel power amp such as a Rotel 993. I'm hoping that as just a transport the Primare would be perfectly adequate or should I be looking to improve on it?
My local Audio-T have a second hand pair of Dynaudio Contour 1.3mkIIs with stands for 650 pounds. Given that I love my 1.1s and from what I've read and heard the 1.3mkIIs are even better these seem a bit of a bargain. I could then put the 1.1s as rears.
I'm obviously not going to buy before demoing but I'm interested in are opinions on how sensible this upgrade would be, is it relatively balanced, any suggestions for alternative components. I'm tempted by the Meridian since I've heard such good things about their kit, I know it only has two analogue inputs but I shouldn't need them. However it doesn't have tape loops, would there be any way to use my separate headphone amp?
This is totally uncharted territory for me so opinions of those that have been there and done it would be appreciated.
Assume budget is around 3-4k.
Thanks
Simon
