View Full Version : My TEAC Dilema

I have a couple of questions. I have settled on a decision to go for the TEAC Legacy range of 'Home Cinema in a Box' systems, coupled with the LS-L800 speaker package, as I feel that these suit my budget and requirements nicely. My question is whether I should go for the 700 or 800 series. I prefer the styling of the 700, but have noticed the difference in Power output (700=30W/ch 800=50W/ch). I'm not sure how relevant this would be in the context I will be using it; a 14ft by 14ft square room, wood floors, average height ceiling. The cost difference is reduced slightly by my yearning for the touch-screen remote (inc with the 800).What do you think?
Also could you recommend the full complement of interconnects that would suit the system well, including speaker cables.
(intend to connect to TOSHIBA 32ZD26P or PANASONIC TX32PD30 if I can justify the spend!)

Welcome to AV Talk?
What is the price differential between the two Chippers?
Unless it's huge, I'd go for the 800... you definitely need at least 50wpc in a room your size. A quoted 30wpc when all channels are being driven really won't be sufficiently loud enough and you'll risk overdriving the system and potentially damaging the speakers too.
Speaker cable wise, anything at around £2.50 to £3 a metre will do a good job. Some QED, Ixos or Cable Talk will be fine and allow the system to perform to it's potential.
If the Teac allows component cable connection to the TV (both the Tosh and Panny you mention accept component) then grab some Scorpion cables from the Power Buy section. If it has to be SCART, then again, QED or IXOS so some suitable ones - best to budget around £30 for a decent one.

Thanks for the tips!
I don't plan to buy till the beginning of the new year, as hopefully prices will reduce a little. From what I can see so far, the TEAC 700 system inc. speakers is around £775, whereas the 800, with its DVD player, AV recevier and the same speaker system, all purchased seprately totals £970ish, but I think this includes the touch screen remote and would be reduced slightly as the website mentioned a 'package' option.
So, I think that a bit more power for a few more quid seems like a wise plan.
