System is Sky+ & DVD >>> JS Tech >>> Panasonic 6 series
Sound goes direct from DVD >>> Musical Fidelity A300 amp >>> PMC FB1's, same for the Sky+, Direct into the amp
I have a sync problem which bizarrely seems variable, Sound precedes picture.
Does the JS Tech box cause this dleay?

The delay is caused by the video processing in the plasma display panel - I believe it takes around 3 - 4 fields (60 - 80 milliseconds), so the sound emerges first. It can be very disconcerting - much more so than when the sound lags the video - as this does not occur in nature.
If you have a DVD player with audio delay on progressive scan (e.g. any current Arcam model) then that can fix the DVD side. Otherwise you need an amplifier with audio delay; inevitably this will be a surround amplifier as it needs to be done in the digital domain.

You could use a Behringer digital delay line (stereo not mono) for your stereo system if you find it annoying. Or, if you have a DD amp with no lipsync delay you could set the main speakers to be really far away in comparison to the centre so that it delays centre channel accordingly and fixes this issue......sort of....

Lip sync is more obvious on a large screen, ie plasma, but will also occur on all TV's as the sync problems often occur at transmition. Many Sky/Freeview/Cable channels have sync problems on and off which is why you only see it at times.I occasionally see lip sync delays on DVD playback, but it is normally only slight and only on a few disks so is not too much of a problem. I have a stereo delay box with various delay settings to compensate for TV. This works well, but only being stereo will obviously be no good for 5.1 DVD's. For full DD/DTS delay you will need a receiver with master delay, and this is becoming more common on the lower priced receivers such as the Denon 3803.
