Just saw this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3077112378&category=29 5) item at eBay for a price comparable to the likes of the Isotek Isoplug and RA's Silencer but this one seems to work between the mains cable and the component.
It seems cheap enough to take a risk on - but then, maybe that's the idea...

Slight tangent to what you're discussing Jules, but thanks to needing an extra socket I bought one of these (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=2 00911&pcount=&Product_Id=135041&Section.Section_Pa th=%2FRoot%2FPowerProtection%2FSurgeMas%2E%2E%2Ean ge2003%2FGoldSeriesRange2003%2F) the other day.
It's got built in filtering and surge protection.
It replaced my 6 way RA Yello extension and gives considerably better results with a cleaner treble and better effects placement, all for £35 IIRC. Good stuff!!

I find wrapping my mains plug in one of these is a cheap but effective method...

(sorry, I'm tired and felling stupid)
