Paul, you might not have some recent posts on cables, but Juboy experimented with some cheap Belden cable vs his Nordost flatline and they were evenly matched despite the Nordost being much more expensive.
At the Bristol show last weekend, the PMC system was being run through cheap and cheerful oxygen-free copper cable and sounded magnificent. The guys from PMC say that's more than adequate and what they use in studio installations.
My point? You could probably wire your speakers for £1/m if you chose to and still get good results. Have a look at Studiospares (http://www.studiospares.com/viewproducts.asp?cid=2490&ctitle=SPEAKER%20CABLE&p =1&gid=5) for some cost-effective solutions.

blimey, this is all totally new to me because as you know i have just changed my speakers to what i consider to be a massive upgrade and the guys in sevenoaks told me i really need to be running them on at least the qed silver anniversary wire at £5 a metre.
i just had a look at the site you recommended and i can't make head or tale of it as there's loads on there.
i don't suppose you could recommend something on there for me could you?
or do you think my current wire is sufficient?
it's labelled up as gale electronics: XL189 whatever that means.

Hi Paul, I'd have thought either of the single wire 2.5mm cables would do nicely; either the Sommer (http://www.studiospares.com/productdetails.asp?pid=52806&cid=2490&ctitle=SPEAK ER%20CABLE&p=1&gid=5), which works out at £1.03/m, or the Europa (http://www.studiospares.com/productdetails.asp?pid=52660&cid=2490&ctitle=SPEAK ER%20CABLE&p=1&gid=5), which comes in at 70p/m!
Cabling can be a bit of a mug's game can't it, my front three are wired with Chord Rumour biwire, which ain't cheap @ £20/m. I wonder with all I read on here and have heard lately whether that's at all necessary and have been contemplating getting some of the cable Juboy got or some of this (http://www.studiospares.com/productdetails.asp?pid=53716&cid=2490&gid=5&ctitle =SPEAKER%20CABLE&p=2) which is very similar but even cheaper.
Can't imagine the pro's putting up with crap cables to master material with.

Deckard's right about the PMC demo... £2500 worth of speakers and probably the same again for source and amp and they were more than happy to run that showcase system with £1p/m OFC cable. The demo guy actually made a point of the fact it was (a) cheap and (b) single wired (even though the speakers are bi-wireable)
Check out my thread in the Cables forum (called 'New Year Challenge') it has links to all the stuff needed to make the cables I now use.
Gambit was round at my house last Sunday night and can vouch for the fact the cables certainly do the business  The only slight possible downside with the Belden bi-wire cable is that the casing is black and it's fairly thick. Other than that, it's very good stuff.

I'd say your Gale 189 is good enough and if you need any more it was a £1.00 a metre at Richer Sounds last time I bought some.
