Hi
I am thinking to buy the new pioneer 2011 receiver. I do have a T.V with a component switching, but a good cable is very expensive. If I connect it to the receiver I would need 2 cables, one that goes straight to the receiver and one that goes straight to the T.V. Would that give me a better quality picture, or can I connect the cable from the dvd straight to the T.V and to save some money.
Thanks!

Go direct to TV. You won't get on screen graphics from Amp if it has them but you will save some pennies.

Daniel, the 2011 doesn't do video upsampling, so you won't see any improvement in picture quality by routing through the amp. As Gordon says, save yourself some money and go direct to the TV. You'll lost the On Screen Graphics but in theory the picture should be better (less connections/signal paths).
BTW, there's a cheap set of Supra AV3 component cables going on eBay at the moment. I know because they're mine :D~:-D~

How can I actually see the on screen display? will I need 2 cables for the component?
Also what would you recommend a good optical cable or a good coaxial cable for home cinema? What cable is good for stereo and Dvd audio?

Yes, you'd need two sets. I use component into my TV and go direct, the amp's display shows you pretty much all you need anyway :)~:-)~

The general consensus is that coaxial digital leads are slightly superior to optical ones, especially at affordable prices. The Eichmann Express digital cable is excellent at around £50. A good cheaper option is the Ecosse 'The Producer' cable at about £20.
For DVD-A you either need i-link or, more likely, 5 sets of regular interconnects I'm afraid.

Daniel, what did you go for in the end? If you haven't already taken the plunge it might be worth having a look at the Power Buy section as Scorpion Cables are doing an offer there.
I've replaced all my component and digital coaxial leads with their cables and they look and sound excellent - doubt you'll get anything to touch them at the price

I thought the 2011 did not output the OSD on component. That is the main reason why I removed it from my shortlist. Are you guys saying now that the 2011 does output OSD on component? Is that confirmed?
This is very important to me as my equipment is behind closed doors, so I'd really like to see the front display on the big screen...
Cheers,

Well I've never managed to get my 2011 to output the OSD via component. It's not really a problem for me as I run a seperate S-Video cable for the OSD, which you only use on occasion. This only really works if you have a spare S-Video socket on your TV!
