View Full Version : Arcam AV8 + P7

Got to play with the Arcam AV8/P7 combo on saturday afternoon while I was back at work for the day.
I had to setup the demo system for the AV room, and mighty impressed I was.
It is only running through a Jm Labs Sib + Cub sub sat system at the moment (5.1) but it sounds brilliant.
I know where my £3K would be going (if I had it).

Great isn'tit? With their DVD cuurently Arcam should be selling these by the bucket load

I have heard of a supply problem. That must be good news.
Wish I could afford one...

I must admit to thinking Arcam on the role, just quality kit and not silly money..
Can't get used to this junior member bit ;)~;-)~

Nice bit of kit and great value.
To go off topic, a few days ago, I installed my first Lex RT-10 DVD player with Lex MC12B.
I was very impressed by this Pioneer based player. Didn't try the progressive output but interlaced looked great through a scaler.
Sound quality was good enough to make me want one. Very transparent indeed. CD playback was excellent but this thing excelled with both SACD and DVD-A

What deinterlacer does the Lexicon use?
Can it be SDI modded easily?

Similar to you Rick, I popped back into the old work being back at home, only to find a new addition to their brands - TAG :D~:-D~
After spending 2 hours setting it up (DVD-32R, AVR32, their 250 x 3 power for the fronts and 7 x 100 for the rears, Spendor S8's for front, S6's for rears and thier centre) I can honestly say I've never been as engrossed in a system before. I'm a stereo man through and through and normally dislike AV systems and sit there getting annoyed with what one speakers doing or whatever but I just sat back and found myself totally immersed in the film. I can understand when people say that £20,000 - £30,000 is a lot to spend on an AV system but I can now say that there is a real difference.
Denon are working on a Pre/Power combo, which according to their guy in the USA will be aimed at Lexicon/Tag performance but without the cost. :)~:-)~
Should be interesting to see what they come up with.

Lets hope it appears at some point, and it's good. :D~:-D~
The last one they made was the AVP-A1dts (US only), back in 1998 I think.

Just got my AV8 and P7 cleared out of customs yesterday. :D~:-D~ Now I 've got to connect it all up. I have surprised myself as I have actually read the manual first - normally I try to plug it in then go back to the manual when it doesn't work images/smiley_icons/icon_thumbsup.gif

Does anyone believe that the AV8 will be upgradable to have HDMI or Firewire input?

I corresponded with John Dawson on the topic prior to buying. He won't commit to any upgrades but said that if it could be done without having to rebuild the whole machine they would do it. The AV8 is built on a modular design to accommodate upgrades - so I guess that's a definite maybe ;)~;-)~

Thanks Garry for your reply.
What's your first impressions of the combo in your own room?
