View Full Version : Where do I start cabling all my kit ?
11-06-2003, 02:33 PM
I've got the following kit:
Pio 433MXE (well, I will have on friday)
Pio 350 DVD
Telewest Digibox (outputs RGB I believe)
Denon 3803 amp
Mission M7s sub/sat speakers
The DVD player has only got an RGB scart on it, so I'm figuring, that for the sake of convenience until I get a decent DVD player the easiest solution is to plug everything into the amp and just have a single uplink to the plasma. Is that a sensible stepping stone ? Obviously once I get a decent DVD player I'd feed that directly to the plasma.
I'm really at a bit of a loss here, and all help will gratefully be received !

the HiFiBitZ site offers a cable guide, which is here (http://www.ixoscable.com/cable/cable_wizard/wizard.asp) though bear in mid it's geared toward Ixos so may be a little biased ;)~;-)~ :D~:-D~

I wouldn't plug any source into the amp as it will degrade the signal. I'm sure you'll notice a difference, no matter what the player :)~:-)~

I have a similar set up to you with the Pio 433MXE yet to recive it yet myself but my DVD has component out. I also do not have as good as amp as you.
I have gone with a video processor in between my video sources and the plasma (have read else where to keep audio and video seperate) to get a good picture out of the plasma. I have gone for the iScan Ultra (£550) have a look at this site:
There will be a very good processor coming out soon especialy for the pioneer plasma but it will be over £1500 proberbly. ALso see website above.
You may find that the quality of the pictures you might get on the plasma disapointing even going through your AMP (can any other forum members help here?) because it will show up the sources in perfections. The video processor such as the iscan will line double and progresive scan all your sources and give you an improved picture.
You might be asking what that has to do with your cabling well it would act as a video source switcher as well and allow you to connect the plasma up with a component cable or DVI cable for best picture quality without going through the AMP.
The only down side is that you current DVD will have to go into the IScan as svideo, same with the digibox (has it got svideo?) and your VCR will have to go in composite and you will have to shell out for the video processor too.
You will be able to get the most out of your PS2 as you can get a component cable for it  :D~:-D~

If you don't want to shell out for a video processor then the best you are going to get is to get a RGB scart to 15pinDsub to the plasma I think should work. (Has the amp got RGB inputs - if so you can go scart rgb to 3 rca) The same with the the Digibox. The other souces will have to switch via the AMP and then monitor out component to Plasma component. Even though your amp switchs the signal from composite or svideo to component I don't think it improves the signal much - someone else might be able to help more on that.
I'm getting my component cables from Scorpion who are advertising above the rest are coming from hifijunkies.
Hope that helps. It may not as its confused me :?~:-?~:???:

Hehe - like the missus is going to let me spend another 500 quid !!!!
Thanks for all your input guys, additional hardware will have to go on the back burner for a little while unfortunately :-(
Feel a little better now though, on the cable front !
