I have just replaced the speaker cable to my front 3.I did have some relativly cheap cable (about 2 pounds a meter). Now I have replaced it with QED Silver Anniversary Bi-Wire, and my word, I thought someone had chaged my speakers when I wasn't looking, and that was without even re-calibrating my receiver.

I have now re-calibrated my receiver, the whole of the front soundstage is now SO much clearer and seems to be a lot more open, also the sound seems to be wider.

If anyone is thinking of changing their speaker cable, then do spend some money for decent quality.I knew it would make a difference, but I didn't realise how much.

All in all one happy bunny.

Was your previous, cheaper cable bi-wire or single?

Glad you noticed a difference. I've replaced many a friend's cheapie/freebie wire on various types of systems (mainly audio to be fair) with QED Silver Anniversary and have noticed improvements every time.

Whilst not wanting to open the whole cable debate again, I just don't know how the most commited cynic doesn't agree that moving from cheap rubbish to c.£4/£5 per metre stuff doesn't improve things to some degree in most cases.

Hi Julian,

The cable that I had before was bi-wire, it was cheapy 2 pounds a meter Gale stuff, I can't tell you the exact model number as it's been thrown out.

I also don't want to go down the old route of "there is no difference between 2 pounds a meter cable and 200 pounds a meter cable", there obviously is.The amount that I spent on the new QED was about right for the system that I have, and it would have been silly of me to spend more as I would not have benefitted from it.That being said I did spend 4 times the amount on the cable than I did when I bi-wired them the first time.

CD's sound so much better and movies seem to have more of that "involving you in the piece" feel. The CD part surprises me most , as I have a 6 year old multi-player, which is realisticly images/smiley_icons/poop.gif .I am looking into this , but not until the end of the year(need to save up,and pay those dreaded bills).

I've read that instead of paying double for bi-wire just use single wire cable connected to either your speakers hi or low connections then use another small piece of the same cable as a jumper to the speaker's unused speaker connectors - this is supposed to work well.

Anybody tried it and compared it to true bi-wiring?

I use it on my four rear surrounds and they all sound pretty good to me. I do use standard biwire cable on the front three though. It's purely and simply a cost issue for me.
