I have just had quotes from Hillarys and Elliots and Blacks, neither cheap though :(

Faber blinds do a laboratory grade guaranteed blackout blind (the Series One, NOT any other despite what the website says), but as Nic says, it's not cheap at all.

They have a website

http://www.faberblinds.co.uk/BlackoutFrameset4.htm

and John Lewis will order for you direct from them (custom order)

SilentGliss make motorised blackout blinds. They call them dim-out blinds I think:

Would a heavy double lined curtain work as well?

If so does anyone know a good make or material to purchase?

John Lewis' made my blackout curtain. They stock a matt black fabric and can line it with blackout lining. They can make it to any size too.

Ive just bought some blackout material from my local Dunelm Mill, at £2.50/m and some velcro to sew on to it..a mates mother is a seamstress, along with some sticky velcro to stick to the walls around the window, enabling me to put up and take down the blackout material as I need.

Will post some pics when its all done.

Update

:D~:-D~

I've made my own; I got a "light stop" blind from John Lewis and used some plastic channel (conservatory flashing) from B&Q for the side channels.

Works a treat, keeps out all the light, however noticed light coming in from the door edge now so that's next.

Depends on where you are located, but I had excellent service from Flamingo Blinds, based in N. London. Check out the web site and give them a call, they may cover a wide area.

If you are confident of your measurments they may make it for you to self install. They're not cheap though.
