I have just entered the home cinema 'club' with the purchase of Yamaha's new rxv-640 unit, a few days ago.
Its connected to a B&W main speakers, a Gale centre and (temporarily) a set of cheapo rears. The DVD source is a Playstation 2, connected to the amp via optical cable. Not ideal, but should do the job til I can afford a dedicated unit.
My problem is this:
I doesn't matter what source DVD I play (DTS, Dolby Digital etc), the amp only ever displays Neo:6 on the screen. I am getting sound out of all 5 speakers, but no 'proper' descrete decoding. Also, the LCD screen only shows a graphic of the left and right speakers, not the 5 that I have preconfigured.
If I try to force the amp into DTS decode mode, I get no sound at all. Before anyone asks, I have set the options on the DVD to DTS.
I've assumed that I should be seeing DTS on the LCD to be getting best quality decoding?
If anyone out there has had a similar problem with a Yamaha or other amp, or if anyone can suggest anything to try to fix this (I may well be making some schoolboy error, being new to the game!), I would be VERY grateful.
Is it worth trying another optical cable?
Cheers in advance,
James
