View Full Version : Replacing a Sherwood 6095RDS...

I know what you're thinking, not much of a challenge :)~:-)~
The 6095 actually sounds pretty good in DTS and DD with the Amps bypassed.
Anyhoo, am looking at a couple of possible replacements - but one specifically has caught my eye. The Sony STR DB 1080 is being offered by Hyper-Fi (ex demo) for £250. It certainly received some warm reviews, and sounds exactly what I'm after.
Does anyone own, or have experience of this amp - let me know what you think.
Oh and, hi! By the way! /* waves /*

Hi, welcome to AV Talk.
May I also suggest a good look at the Marantz range. There are some good deals going on at the moment and they make a great product for the money.

I was looking at the Sony for my recent upgrade - heard there is a 'hissing' problem BTW - but lost all interest when I heard my Marantz SR5300. Granted you'll most likely have to buy it new, so it'll be a bit more pricey, but it's a simply wonderful amp for the money IMO. SR4300 isn't meant to be too shabby either.
Whatever you choose, take Erics advice and at least listen to a few other brands. Buying something just cos it's a good deal means you could miss out in the long run.

Thanks for the replies so far. Lets take a slightly broader view.
I own a pair of Mission 773e front speakers, with a B&W CC6 centre speaker. No Sub and some non descript rears (soon to be upgraded). Can anyone recommend a good partnering amp with this setup?

Might be worth considering the Denon 1803 also, which can be had online for £219 delivered.

Really? Any linkage? I was considering the Denon, I just couldn't find good deals at the time.

Actually, I just found an even better deal on the 1803, click here (http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/productdetailsnew.asp?modelcode=DEN-AVR1803G&affiliateid=95) to get it for less than £210 :o~:-o~
