View Full Version : Denon avr2802 or Marantz sr5300? HELP!!!

Help me out here??!? I've been spending far too much time on the web searching for my ideal amp upgrade - and I think I finally settled on either the Marantz 5300 or the Denon AVR2802 (although I'm now suffering from net lag).
Its always nice to get bit of perspective, so which would you go for as both are similar prices? I have heard both, but not with my speaker setup.
My speakers: Mission 773e (front), B&W CC6 (centre), Aegis EVO compacts (rear).
I'm off to bed now. :o~:-o~

I just sold my 2802 as I've upgraded to the Pioneer 2011. That said, the Denon is a great piece of kit. You can get them for £299 brand new these days :o~:-o~

How do you find these prices Juboy?
Lowest I can find the 2802 is RicherSounds at around £350. Got any linkage for the £299 pricepoint? Again! :)~:-)~

I'll give you a big thumbs up as to your choice of AV receiver, the Denon 2802 that I have had for over a year now is still in as good shape as the day I bought it, excellent build quality, more connections than you should ever need, and a owners manual that is an absolute nightmare to make head or tail of..this is what AV is all about. :D~:-D~

Well, received the Denon AVR 2802 Wednesday. What can I say, its a handsome piece of kit both visually and aurally. Open, transparent and powerful. I've spent 2 solid evenings listening to my AV top ten and am completely blown away by it.
But what the hell were Denon thinking when they designed that Remote?? It's an absolute design abomination! The manual is OK but really doesn't come colse to covering all the AMPs features properly. However I am having difficulty getting my s-video inputs and s-video monitor (from the amp to the TV) working together. For some reason I just can't get the damned DVD image to appear through the AMP. Is there some FAQ on this beast somewhere?
Incidentally, I can't recommend http://www.creative-audio.co.uk enough. They were friendly, efficient and downright quick (I received ay amp the following day). I won't hesitate to use them again (mmmm that MJ Acoutics Pro50 sub looks tasty).
Thanks everyone (especially Juboy) for the info and opinions, very helpful indeed.

Happy owner of AV2802 reporting in. It comes complete with two upgraditis opportunities:
1. it has pre-outs with which to prompt/satisfy that 'add a stereo amp for music' urge
2. the remote is so pig-ugly you are bound to want a Pronto (or in my Pace, a Kameleon) universal remote.

That remote, tsskkk! What were they thinking? Luckily Maplin are doing the e-pilot LCD touch screen remote at 40 quid until early August - so hopefully I can banish the thing to the cupboard shortly.
Have any 2802 owners had problems using the AMP's s-video out combined with an s-video DVD in? I just couldn't get the darned thing to work.

I thought the 2802 remote went rather nicely with that other Fisher Price designed remote, for the Denon 2800MkII :D~:-D~
