View Full Version : Oz

Just finished watching a programme called Oz on E4+1.
I have often seen this listed in the TV mag but never took any notice of it. Always thought it was some stupid Ozzy soap or crap Ozzy drama.
Boy was I wrong. I have no idea what episode it was but it seemed quite brutal in places.
It's all about a US Prison. I have no idea how long it's been going for on E4 or how many episodes are left. So I was wondering if anyone knew if it was availible on dvd R2.
Has anyone else seen this prison drama and if so what are your thoughts?

I've never watched this but would be interested in the episodes featuring Peter Criss from Kiss - any Oz fans know which those were?

He was in the first two of season 5: Visitation and Laws of Gravity. This season in particular was superb.
It's a great show dealing with harsh characters in harsh environments. I'm surprised you never went for this juboy. Why not dip your foot in with S1 on dvd? It has some great extras too with commentary about the shows' genesis which is enlightening in the broader prison schema too.

Thanks for that, I might well have to investigate. It was one of those shows I always meant to look at but missed the first three or four episodes and just kind of forgot about it.

As Encaser said Oz has been running for many years long before E4 existed, in those days was shown around two in the morning on Channel 4. Oz is an excellent prison drama which is very gritty and very brutal which sometimes can be hard viewing. The characters are excellent and the ongoing plots and character development just keeps on coming thick and fast. I would say it's definitely a hidden gem that not many people seem to know about. I personally wouldn't buy the DVDs but it is definitely an excellent show and well worth trying to catch up on re-runs at the very least.
I haven't watched last Friday night/Saturday morning's episode yet but how long has this season been going? I mean I was watching it just before Christmas and they finished the season off and I'm extremely surprised to see a brand new season less than two months later.

E4 are showing the latest season (as far as I know) but it is a repeat of the same season shown before Christmas.

Does anyone watch this?
I have now seen the first 3 seasons on dvd; I really like it. Really gritty and I surprised it hasn't been more of a hit here.
I have season 5 on sky+ ready to go, once season 4 arrives in Feb.

someone clearly has a better memory than me
I have been looking on TV Tome and I have discovered that the 4th season is a bumber 16 episodes long, double every other season
that should keep me busy over half term
I then found out it was cancelled after season 6 :(
