just got my new Philips DVP5990 which seems to be a great player.
I realised it didn't have the DTS logo on it, so I went to Philips website and saw this: "Please note that the set does not support DTS decoding, so you will need to amplify the DTS stream by connecting via Coaxial output." This happens to be exactly how I have it connected, but what exactly does it mean? I tested a DVD with DTS soundtrack and it played fine, but does that mean that it's not a true DTS soundtrack? Is there any loss in effects or something like that? (The AV receiver does lit the DTS logo while playing) |

It means that the player itself doesn't do the decoding of the DTS stream - but rather passes that responsibility to your receiver. This is a better option anyway so don't worry about it.
If your receiver is showing the DTS logo then it's all working fine.
