Default HIFI Attachable Hard Drive for Mp3 playback?

Anyone know of a device that can be attached to a hifi that is essentially a hard drive and can store my music files?

It also needs to be accessible via a laptop over wifi.

Anyone know of such a device?

The setup would look like this:

Thanks

Does your hifi system have USB inputs? If so then you have manys of option.

My mate has a 500GB external hard drive that he has all his music and a few movies stored on and plays them back through his system via his xbox 360.

If you don't have usb on the hifi then maybe you could hook it up to the pc (via USB) then if your laptop has an audio output you could run this to the hifi.

there lots of options... have a google..

some single devices like your diagram - imerge, olive opus. These dont seem as popular these days as you dont really want a noisy hard drive near your hifi.

others which use a pc plus a device to get the music off it - squeezebox, sonos, linn has a whole range of expensive versions of these.

for the above devices you can get a 'pc' that is just for the job, eg an 'ava rs3 music server' which will rip your music to hard disk for you

Funny enough I came across this today in SVI mag and it seemed pretty impressive.
