I bought the tickets a while back just to see Wolfmother. It should be a pretty good gig though. I will post back with my opinion of the gig.

What did you think of The Maccabees? Their first two songs have been excellent!

Just got back a while ago.

I enjoyed the night. They were quite good and I ended up knowing alot more of their material than I thought I would. They played in an old theatre in the centre of Dublin and we ended up in the highest part of the auditorium looking down from a height which wasnt ideal visually or soundwise.

They really are a strange collection of blokes.Manni, probably the most famous through his Stone Roses connection and TV appearances(soccer a.m.)is a pretty cool looking guy on stage and comes across as a guy who could be your mate. One of the guitarists and the keyboard player both looked like they were Van Morrisson impersonators, both sporting silly looking hats. The drummer looked like a body builder who was just back from the gym.And then theres the lead singer:

Probably the most unlikely frontman I have ever seen in my life.He was like a rake, wearing a shiny suit with shiny shoes! He didnt speak to the audience at all for the whole night. When he wasnt singing he spent most of his time standing on the spot looking at the ground, and when he did decide to move,he looked as awkward as his attire.I,m convinced he was totally off his head.Still he sang all the vocals and didnt up any of the songs, and after a while he was quite endearing in a way, with his quirkiness.

The last member, the other guitarist looked like a younger version of the singer but didnt have any problems moving about the stage.

They also had two black female backing singers who were strutting their stuff at the side of the stage, but it was very hard to hear any of their vocals. It really was an odd looking collection on stage.

Anyway I enjoyed most of the stuff. It had that no nonsense rock and roll feel to it.A few of the tracks really reminded me of the early days of punk.

They didnt really blow me away or convert me to a fan but they didnt do anything to offend or bore me either(once you got over the dis-interested look of the singer).

In fact I,m listening to their greatest hits after downloading it tonight when I got back from the gig.

Dont go with any big expectations and it should be an enjoyable if forgettable evening.

Was there a bar right at the back? I've seen a few acts in Dublin. Spent one of the nights in a bar...

Cheers Adrian,

Might give them a go if I've got not a lot else on. I suspect nothing I ever watch from now on is going to live up to that Flaming Lips concert though

Olympia, that's was it. I saw Shane McGowan (sp?) there (from the bar) and ended up losing the person I was with. No idea where the hotel was and taxis are hard to come by. Found some water and followed it until things started looking familiar.

Well, I can't walk on water, but I can run on cider.

Actually, I can't swim.

Going to see the Scissor Sisters tonight in Nottingham. Never been a fan of arena shows but they're supposed to be very good live.
