Default High end private cinema

Another install done and almost dusted. This one is an interesting room in that the side walls curve outward toward the screen wall. The room itself is approx 8 meters by 8 meters at its longest/widest points.

Originally the plan was to have a three tier seating system starting from a row of 3 chairs at the back of the room, followed by 4 chairs then 5 chairs. The chairs nearest the screen would have been a little too close (unless the size of the screen was drastically reduced, not ideal in this large room). So it was decided that we lose a row of seats and go with 4 at the back and 5 seats further forward where the width of the room was wider at the next tier down.

A lot of money was spent on the room and fine detail. For example the rooms climate control circulates air at all times but as soon as a sensor at the entrance of the room picks up movement, it boosts the climate control to a pre-set position. This is handy given that an average adult puts out something like a 1/2 kilowatt of body heat. Multiply this by 9 and you soon begin to appreciate the flexibility of the rooms state of the art climate control system. The projector enclosure also has it's own cooling with hot air being drawn out replaced by cool air.

The projector used was a Marantz VP15 together with a Schneider Optics anamorphic lens and kino linear lens sled. Speakers were James 83 SDX x 3 at the front behind the 2.35-1, 12ft Screen research acoustically transparent screen and 6 x James 62FX, 4 pieces for the left and right side surrounds and 2 pieces in the rear surround position.

The surround processor is the Marantz AV-8003 and bluray is via the Marantz BD-7003. Other sources are Sony PS3, Nintendo Wii, and Sky HD.

The room will be carpeted this week and the motorised chairs will be installed, after which I will be visiting on Friday to complete acoustic and video calibration. More images of the finished room to follow next week.

First image shows the alcantara covered acoustic panels going up on the curved side walls. The wood strips were there to keep the panels in place while the adhesive went off overnight. The screen is already installed in front of the James L/C/R front soundstage speakers.

Most of the light eating acoustic room treatment is finished now and this picture shows just how big the screen is with 6ft Lee standing next to it. Actual size of the screen is 12ft 6" (3.80 meters) x 5ft 3" (1.61 meters). Black alcantara was used at the screen wall end as usual with a biscuit colour chosen by the clients for the side walls/ceiling and carpets.

You can clearly see the curve of the side walls in this shot.

The projector enclosure and air vents for the climate control. Without the hatch, the installation and adjustment of the projector and anamorphic lens system would have been virtually impossible.
